Today is the last day of 2017, which means it’s time to reflect. To live better, we need to decide what to change about our lives in the New Year. 2017 had many revelations in store for me, and I have learned so much about myself in the last 365 days. One of the biggest things I learned was that my biggest obstacle on the path to success is myself.

In order to truly be happier and live a more fufilling life, there are certain aspects of myself I need to change moving forward. If we don’t leave certain things behind in 2017, we will live the same year over and over without making any progress. Here, I’m sharing 7 things you and I should leave behind in 2017 to have a better New Year:

1. Toxic people

No more fake friends! The people you surround yourself with can have such a significant impact on your happiness. If you have people in your life who put you down, make you feel bad about yourself, or don’t treat you fairly, you might want to consider removing those people from your life. There are plenty of people in the world who will love and support you, so why waste your time on people who don’t?

2. Self-doubt

This is one of my biggest obstacles in my career. Last year, I started this blog, and that was a huge step for me because I was absolutely terrified of what people would think. However, I overcame my self-doubt and took a leap of faith. I have had tremendous success with my blog in the past year, and I have accomplished more than I ever imagined I would.

If I can do it, so can you! Don’t let your self-doubt get in the way of pursuing the life you’ve always dreamed of. Chase your passions fearlessly and you will astound yourself with how much you are able to achieve!

3. Excuses

“I don’t have time.”

“I’m not good enough.”

“I’m too [insert negative adjective here].”

Do any of these sound familiar? These are called EXCUSES, and they are your worst enemy.

Think really hard about what you want most in life. What is preventing you from pursuing it? If any of the sentences I listed above come to mind, that means that excuses are getting in your way. Stop making them! If you keep making excuses for the rest of your life, you will fall short of achieving your dreams. The reality is that you can make time for anything, and you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. Believe it and you will see it!

4. Unhealthy habits

Health is so important to take into consideration when making decisions for your future. Trust me, I’m not perfect. I am a pizza-eating, party-loving gal who doesn’t always get enough sleep. But one of my big resolutions for the New Year is to take better care of my mind, body, and soul. After all, you and I only get one body in this life. So we should treat our bodies like temples!

5. Your comfort zone

Let’s make 2018 a year of good risks and big results. Living in the comfort zone is boring, and there’s no way you’ll reach your full potential if you constantly hang out in there. Take a few steps outside of your comfort zone in the New Year and you’ll see the difference!

6. Overthinking

Overthinking is another one of my biggest obstacles in my life and career. I overthink way too much, which gets in the way of my creativity. In 2018, I want to stifle my tendency to overthink and allow my creativity to flow more freely. You should do the same, especially if you are a blogger or creative like me. Don’t let overthinking stop you from creating and living your life the way you want to! If you and I learn to go with the flow more, we will be much happier and more successful.

7. Negative attitudes

“You can’t live a positive life with a negative mind.”

Think positive! Life isn’t perfect, and sometimes it throws us curve balls. I am a firm believer that there is an upside to every bad situation. In 2018, I am going to try to think more positively and make the best of what life throws at me.

In all honestly, 2017 was not the greatest year for me, and I think a lot of it had to do with my mindset. However, I am going into 2018 with a positive outlook on life and more confidence in myself than I’ve ever had. I know it will be a great year because I’m going to make it awesome!

Going into the New Year, my best advice for you is to think positive thoughts, even in the toughest of times. You will see improvements almost instantly if you change your mindset.
