Valentine’s Day is a holiday that can be celebrated by all, regardless of whether you are married, dating, or single. We should use this special time of year to appreciate the people who love and support us. Not all Valentine’s Day plans have to involve fancy dinners or lavish escapades. Sometimes, it’s the simple things that matter the most. In today’s post, I’m sharing some stay-in Valentine’s Day date night ideas that are easy to recreate and perfect for celebrating with significant others, friends, or family.

Enjoy a home-cooked meal with wine.

Cooking for your significant other is sweet, but it can be even more romantic to enjoy cooking a meal together! Add in your favorite bottle of wine, and you’re sure to share a special night together.

You can make anything that you both enjoy eating, but if you need some inspiration, try my recipe below.

Chicken alfredo is a go-to meal for me because it is so versatile. You can spice it up by adding in additional vegetables or meat. This time, I decided to add some bacon to it, but I’ll also sometimes add sweet peppers and spinach. If I’m feeling especially adventurous, I might also add in a few shrimp or bits of crab. It all depends on my mood!

Check out my super simple recipe for chicken alfredo:

Serves: 4

  • 3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 3 cups of penne pasta
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 cups grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ stick butter (4 tbsp.)
  • ¾ cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the chicken

  1. Wrap each chicken breast in an aluminum foil envelope.
  2. Bake for around 25 minutes, or until done.
  3. Slice the cooked chicken into bite-sized pieces. Set aside.

For the pasta

  1. Fill a medium-sized pot halfway with water. Bring to a boil.
  2. Add the penne pasta to the pot.
  3. Add half a tablespoon of salt to the water.
  4. Let pasta boil for 10-12 minutes, or until tender.
  5. Strain the pasta. Set aside.

For the sauce

  1. Microwave butter for 15-20 seconds, or until completely melted.
  2. Simmer the heavy cream in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Stir in butter.
  3. Whisk in the mozzarella and parmesan cheese until all cheese is melted and ingredients are combined.

Once all three components are ready, stir in sauce and chicken into the pasta. Combine ingredients thoroughly. Add in Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper as desired.

Watch movies.

There’s nothing like an old fashioned movie night! You can marathon movies all night with your significant other, family, and friends if you want. Be sure to pick out movies that you all enjoy, make some popcorn, drink some wine, and enjoy some bonding time!

Try something new together.

If you want to get even closer to the people you love, try something new with them! Check out some tutorials on YouTube or consult some how-to books for inspiration. If you find an activity that you can enjoy with the important people in your life, you will have something new to share with them!

Go camping in your backyard.

If you enjoy being outdoors but don’t want to venture far from home, why not set up camp in your own backyard? Get a tent and maybe have a little bonfire (if that’s legal and safe in your area!) You can enjoy all the benefits of camping out without ever leaving your property.
